Hello from SW Florida

I'm Old, I'm Trying triathlons, I'm a Guy

Not new to bicycling, had a bike shop back in NJ in '73-'86. Wife and I customized bikes for 4 to 10 year children with Cerebral Palsey and Spina Bifida. First road bike was a '83 Paramount I built up with Campy, then a friend gave me his late brother's Cannondale CAAD 8 and just bought a Giant Propel SL3.

I have enjoyed lurking a bit here and decided to join in the fun.

Stay verticle on your bike and smooth roads to all.

John

Hi John, good to see another old guy form Florida here at BF, welcome aboard. Seems that you are one of the true veterans of bicycling, the bikes for the children with disabilities sounds like it was a rewarding activity. Drop in at the 50+Forum and join the other old guys and gals here, we have some Tri competitors there as well as just about anything bike related you can imagine. With that intro and your experiences I can think of several forums you would enjoy participating in. Right now, if you haven't already been there, visit the Southeast Regional Forum so you can introduce your self there, too. I'm in NW Florida but your area has a lot of participation in the forums, best of luck with the triathlons.

Welcome John. How old is old? I'm 68. Lots of others here older than me. Check out the 50+ forum when you get a chance.
Whereabouts in SW FL?

Thanks Bill and Ron.

Saw the 50+ and dropped in. July will be my 63rd so not really old but old enough. Bike crash 2 years ago with a C6 fracture plus C5, C6, C7 compression and slippage, fractured right clavicle, LTN injury and now need a total right shoulder replacement because joint is all bone on bone. Surgery on the 21st for partial/total thyroid removal due to massive Goiter and Parathyroid tumor.

Younger means bouncing back faster but I'll take what is dished out and keep on turning those cranks as long as I can.

OTG,
Best wishes on the surgeries' success, those can be tough but are survivable. I've had 16 majors since 2000, 3 were on my spine, 2 laminectomies that failed and a 2 level PLIF at L4-L5, L5-S1 with full hardware. I can empathize with your pain and hope it goes well for you with the shoulder.
