My Schwinn that is finally getting out of the basement

Greetings,

In the past I had been an avid bike rider, and I am a 55 year old overweight woman who was always challenged with weight issues, but biking always gave me peace, serenity, exercise, and social contacts. Long story to be told another time, I am dusting off the Schwinn that my father, God bless him, gave to me, and it is an early 80's traveler. I rode it for a long time after Dad gave it to me, and now it is at the original Schwinn shop that sold it to Dad for a tune up, a chain change, and new tires. The restoration is about $250, and I was contemplating junking the bike and buying a new one until the salesman said this bike has value. He said it is a twelve speed, and it is pre 1986 because Dad had it a while before I moved back home. It is a lovely maroon red, and I can check all the bells and whistles when it comes home on Wednesday.

Thanks for having this site. I am getting stoked to riding again.

Jackie

Thank you for the welcome. I am haven't ridden in 20 yrs., in taking care of elder parents, but while I expect to wobble, I don't think I will forget. I am so glad the salesman leaned me to refurbishing Dad's bike instead of buying a new one. It has huge sentimental value.

Thanks,

Jackie

Got to tell you now your butt will not like the seat.

So take many short rides untill it feels good.

Takes some easy miles for your body to get adjusted to riding.

I started road riding when I was 65 y/o.

Enjoy it and have fun.

Hi Jackie, welcome to BF, the Traveler is a fantastic bike, our daughter has one in Atlanta, its her daily commuter, she doesn't want to risk the C'Dale R500 on the streets and bike racks. The shop guy sounds like a smart man, you should check in on the Classic and Vintage Forum to see and participate with other enthusiast of the earlier bikes.
