Epic intro
Hello bikers,
I'm a college student who's been lurking these forums for a while and referencing them while doing bike repairs. An unanswered question came to mind today so I decided to become a member of Bike Forums and seek the advanced and bounteous knowledge of its users!
As a kid I rode a Mongoose mountain bike (cheap, from a sporting goods store) that lasted me so many years. Through attempting to service it I gained an appreciation for bikes as well as new knowledge. It was stolen some time ago and I was then forced to look into a newer, better bike.
I ended up buying a Trek mountain bike - but it's not a real mountain bike for trails (doesn't have adequate fork/suspension/shocks), it's more of a commuter bike. Ride it all the time and love it, I do longer rides in the summer (20-40 miles) and am currently trying to break the 50 mile mark.
I picked up an old Schwinn road bike at a g-sale recently and took it apart completely. I'm not sure exactly what model it is, but I believe it's from the 70s or 80s. I'm taking the frame in for sandblasting tomorrow and then painting it. I'm also giving all it's parts a good clean, and giving it new brake cables, tires, and tape. I'm keeping track of my expenses and hoping to sell it (unless I fall in love with it, which is a distinct possibility).
That's about all for now I suppose.

Haha yeah I never used it much off-road, not surprised that they don't hold up! Thanks for the welcome.
