Hello!

Hello people!

This is my first post, just taking my time to introduce myself.

I'm a commuter mainly, riding a self-built road-ish bike (Prorace Calisto frame, Shimano Tiagra shifters and derailleurs, SRAM Apex cranks, Shimano Ultegra wheels). I say "road-ish" because I have it set up so my riding position is quite relaxed. I use a bull-horn handlebar with the STI's mounted to it -the set-up has been described by others as "a bit odd looking", but I find the extra leverage you get on the brakes (compared to riding on the hoods on a conventional drop-bar set-up) to be far and away safer for riding in traffic.

Piccy:-

(Those Tron-like wheels are actually the reflective side-walls on the Schawlbe Marathon Plus tyres!)

My annual mileage averages around 3000 miles (2013 total so far is 1970miles), I'm not particularly quick; I've never achieved an average of over 19.0mph for a ride greater than an hour, but I'm disappointed if my ride average is less than 17mph.

I'm a bit of a numbers/science geek (I'm a mechanical engineer by trade), particularly interested in the science of cycling; I record most of my rides on GPS and keep a running log of my power outputs to see how things are progressing, but I also like to leave the GPS at home from time to to time and just do a nice gentle "old school" ride!

I had my first taste of riding on a velodrome last weekend (The one at Calshot in the UK), which was awesome, although one of the things I like about cycling is just being able to get out and go wherever you want...
