new guy and complete novice
Hi all...I have never quite biked much..and hence forgive the ignorance of my questions. I happen to have a ROSS Mt rushmore bike which I won at some contest in college. I think its a mountain bike. Does that mean it is suitable for driving only on rugged terrains, coz I plan to use it for a short commute daily (on normal roads). Should that be a problem?..Also any feedback on the the quality and durability of the bike.
Thanks
Thanks

Never heard of the brand of bike. You can easily ride a mountain bike on the roads, people do it all the time. If you are going to be riding primarily on roads, you might consider putting slick tires on the bike instead of the knobby tires I"m sure it came with.

Welcome to BikeForums.
Ross is a low end bike sold primarily in places like X-Mart.
If you plan on doing a lot of commuting you may want to visit the Commuting subforum for suggestions on tires, how to carry stuff, lights, etc. They'll even suggest bikes to replace the one you have.

Ross is somewhat common. Lower end bike, but probably will work just fine for you.
Knobby tires are slow on pavement, there are lots of different types of tires you can pick from. A semi-slick tire will give you the best balance for pavement and dirt road riding. A mountain bike like yours will have lower gearing than a road bike, that means you'll be slower, but able to go up hills easier.
Eventually, you'll want to upgrade to a better bike.
Use your Ross, continue to check the message board for advice and you'll be able to make that decision with confidence.
