Hello from Wisconsin!
I just started riding six weeks ago for the first time in about 10 years. I picked up a 2009 Gary Fisher Tiburon in nearly new condition for $150 and rode it 200 miles in August, hoping to increase that this month. I already understand the feeling of needing more bike, but my budget doesn't allow for that, so I remain content with what I have for now. During August and hopefully through October, biking to work is no problem (the real problem is my commute is only half a mile, so my heart doesn't even get going!), but my other rides are typically 5-15 miles, over roads and packed trails. I changed tires out to 700x32c hoping to pick up some speed, but that is about as narrow as I can go and still navigate the trails I ride (there is some loose sand). Looking for the perfect bike for both roads and trails, and thinking I really need two bikes. I'm not sure my back can tolerate a drop bar road bike (my back is 52 years-old), but looking for something fast (speed is definitely addictive) that could handle the occasional trail (probably 80/20 roads to trail ratio). Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey sparky,
Welcome to Bike Forums.
The forward lean on a road bike is actually good for relieving back pain.
I have a bad back and riding 55,000 road bike miles has been one the best things for it.
