G’day all

G'day

I have been cycling on and off all my life, but I am now getting a little more interested. I have a MTB which I really only ride when going out for a “social” ride with my wife and a road bike. The road bike was an alloy cheapy that I am progressively upgrading bits of it using the farmers axe philosophy (you change the head, then the handle then the head, but it’s always the same axe). So at the moment it’s an aluminium pig with lipstick . It still gets me out there though.

I’m currently studying in DC and am really enjoying the huge number of great rides around here, we’ll see how the winter goes.

At the moment I’m riding two or three times a week covering 100 to 150kms (I’m an Aussie so I still think in SI units) and have a goal of increasing my average speed from it’s current 25-26 km/h to 33. Yeah, ambitious I know, but I'm aiming for a century in the future.

Anyway that’s me and my riding in a nutshell.

Hi TJ, welcome to Bike Forums! Love the head/handle reference haha!

Riding two or three times a week is a good start, you'll find yourself going out longer and longer. As that progresses, you will see that your needs for the bike will change in terms of components and what kind of riding you like best. So take your time when changing parts around.

We have a regional section that you might want to check out. Maybe meet some of the others in your area for some rides on your days off!
