Hello from SW Ontario/SE Michigan
As a teen age I started working in a pro bike shop as a mechanic, then as USCF mechanic, then an Olympic Training Center mechanic, worked neutral support and raced juniors and cat 3 until 1995. I also worked in a shop where we did all the warranty work for Vitus carbon and aluminum frames and also repaired Alan, Guerciotti, Trek, Giant, etc carbon frames. That was along time ago. Worked for a frame builder as well. Then all cycling stopped as Grad school and work took its toll. I have always had a bike, but no time to ride. Just getting back into the sport. Now I have the opportunity for really nice bikes being ridden at a snail's pace. (read: Fred) I am in it for the fun and not the speed. I have no ego tied up in this endeavour.
my rides are generally 25-40 miles with some longer rides on the weekends. I'm old and out of shape and not fast, but dammit, I have fun and I try to behave myself.
I have some nice arse-jewelry. I'm too old to ride crap machines or wear shoddy kit, but I know exactly where I belong-- at the back hanging on for dear life, ha!
Nostalgia:
I started watching cycling as a child and remember Saronni winning the Worlds in Goodwood in 1982, my first racing bike at the age of 14 (Panasonic Professional) primed the pump. I have an affinity for vintage steel frames: Ciocc, Merckx, De Rosa, Gianni Motta, Guerciotti, Pinarello-- you get the idea. I don't have one yet, but I will soon.

Impressive! With your experience, you're more than welcome to flex those bike fixing muscles in the mechanics area with your fellow wrenches here.
