Hello from DC!

My name is Roy, I live in DC, and I'm not a politician or lobbyist ;-) I started watching some videos on pinkbike.com and of course it made me realize how much I miss biking. I used to ride 20-30 miles easily when I was young, but now at 34 I can't ride more than 15 minutes without sweating like a pig and struggling to breathe. I'm hoping to use this forum to get advice, get back in shape, and more importantly have fun biking again. I have a crappy 2005 Fuji Del Rey hybrid, but I figure if I can get in shape on that thing I'll be fast when I can actually afford a good bike. I'm leaning towards cyclocross now as I really like going fast, but also like riding on gravel and dirt roads. Anyway enough of my blathering, I look forward to talking to all of you in the future.

Hi Roy,

Welcome! A cyclocross is also a good choice for DC streets if you use the bike to commute or just get around town.

Truthfully I'm chicken sh** to ride on DC streets. It's bad enough driving alongside the drivers here ;-) I'm thinking about Rock Creek park, the Arboretum, C&O Canal trail, etc. Plus I heard there are a lot of good gravel roads in Virginia and Maryland. Do you have any good recommendations for where to ride that doesn't have much traffic?
