Returned to Cycling for Health and Fun

I'm a 57 year old man who has gotten back into cycling after surviving some some serious health problems. I use to ride seriously in the 80's but haven't paid much attention to the sport since then. My favorite bike is my Raleigh Twenty which I've heavily modified. I also own a Jamis hard frame MTB. I rode a 25 mile rail trail with my son on it this summer and hope to do much more this year.
My initial push to return to cycling was for health reasons but I'd forgotten how much fun cycling is.

Hi Nick,

Welcome to Bikeforums! Many of us here returned to cycling in middle life. Bikeforums is a great place for information and support.

When I ride my bike I feel free and happy and strong. I'm liberated from the usual nonsense of day to day life. Solid, dependable, silent, my bike is my horse, my fighter jet, my island, my friend. Together we will conquer that hill and thereafter the world.

Oh geeze, I was the same way. I left cycling for many reasons, one being because of my messed up back. But I was able to get things just right to where I can ride now with the back issues I have. We have a cool section called 50+ that sometimes deals with the things we face as we get into middle age. Lots to learn in there.

Oh and welcome to Bike Forums!

Welcome to Bike Forums. I got back into cycling when I was 55. I'm now 69 and have loved every mile I've ridden in the past 14 years.
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. - Psalm 103:8

I am a cyclist. I am not the fastest or the fittest. But I will get to where I'm going with a smile on my face.
