New Member intro MS
Hello all.
I found this site in an effort to gather as much info as I can prior to purchasing a road bike.
The purpose: Triathlon and mini sprint triathlons in an effort to battle the bulge!
Personal info: 42 years old, 6'4", 250lbs, 35" measured Minimum clearance (in seam) I am wanting to spend $500 or less for an entry level bike and aero bars.
Played football and baseball in HS and rode motor cross.
I have had both of my knees scoped, right shoulder scoped and a titanium plate in my back L4/L5 fusion.
I spent a lot of time on mountain bikes in college. All of which were rigid frames.
Started out with a Diamondback then a Trek and finally a Cannondale. I logged a lot of miles on these bikes but I have never seriously ridden a road bike.
I am searching for my best options for a road bike, which I have already found some information in the forums.
I am trying to weigh the options: where would my money be better spent?
Option 1: decent frame/Good components?
Or
Option 2: Good frame/ decent components?

Welcome to Bike Forums!
Check the Road Forum. I'd recommend a road bike over a tri bike because 1) they're more versatile, and 2) you're more likely to find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. At $500, you're likely looking used. I'm sure there are good Craigslist deals to find though!

Welcome to BF! I also suggest checking with the Clydesdale/Athena forum, which is geared to men over 200 pounds and women over 140 or thereabouts. They may have some good ideas on bikes for you; there are a number of big guys who ride road bikes on that forum.
