Greetings from Cowtown
Hi. My name is Jim and I am 51. I teach science and computer science (though all my degrees through Ph.D. are in biology) at an independent private school in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, though I live out in the country west of the city (pretty rural). I help with the beginnings of a cycling sport at my high school (called an upper school in private school lingo).
I rode quite a lot in graduate school at Cornell in Ithaca (upstate), New York, though I've been out of the game for over twenty years. I started back up last spring with a Jamis Citizen (hybrid) and quickly moved up to a Bianchi Boardwalk (hybrid). A few weeks ago I bought a Trek Pilot 5.2 and can't believe how much more enjoyable my riding is. I ride mostly on the Trinity Trail in Fort Worth (paved), though I will also ride quite a lot on the rougher country roads out here in the country. On the Pilot, I added some Bar Phat, a Flightdeck computer system, and Shimano M520 clipless pedals. I have been messing about with stems, but think I've settled on a Ritchey 90 mm (17 deg up) for now. I also have a Ritchey 100 mm and the Bontrager 110 mm that came with the bike. As I get used to the laid out road position, I'll probably go to the 100 mm stem. I bought a Trek CRZ+ saddle and am quite happy with it. I am in good shape but could still do to lose a few pounds. I work out cardio and weights 3-5 times/wk at the gym and try to ride at least 5-6 hours per week. I'd like to get that up to 10 hours or so. At 6'1" I weight about 210. I consider myself a beginning rider at this point since I've been out of it for so long. My old NY bike was a Fuji S10S road bike. I've mostly returned to riding for fun and friends, and secondarily for fitness. Jim |
Jim, there are a couple other Fort Worthians here. Chickenlipz just joined up this week, and I've been around a few months. I have a hybrid I ride, thoiugh I've gotten into recumbents and having a blast with them. I ride on the trinity every chance I get. Hopefully I'll see you around there. I'm also a teacher. I Teach Spanish and coach Wrestling at Sam Houston High in Arlington, though I live in Ft Worth.

Hi Jim. Welcome to the group. Like you and Greg, I ride the Trinity Trails myself. I am usually out there on my lunch hour, and in the evenings after 5:00 pm. I got a kick out of seeing both of you are teachers. I don't teach, but I do work at TCU. I ride a blue Rans v-rex recumbent and frequently pull a BOB trailer. Give a shout if you see me out there.
