Miyata Biker

Greetings from Northwest Ohio! I just joined Bike Forums, but have been an avid bicyclist and hiker for many years. I have a couple of older Schwinn bicycles and a couple of Miyata 1000LT touring bicycles. Mostly into casual biking for the exercise and health values, and getting outdoors to enjoy the weather. Longer rides are 50 miles or so, and the other rides are 20 to 30 miles. I'm a type 2 diabetic for the past 25 years, so that does have an affect on my riding, especially in the hot summer months. I just enjoy getting out and riding my bike! I try to ride a minimum of 1,500 miles during the season.

My oldest Schwinn is a 5 speed from the early 60's ( paper route transportation! ), and a newer 80's model 12 speed road bike. The Miyatas are the touring edition just because of the ride and the geometry of the frame. I've done a couple of centuries on the Miyata years ago, but would sure like to have a go at another 100 miler if the conditions were good. As a former Buckeye, you know about the weather we have! Last week it was 60 degrees and I put everything back on the bike and checked it out for that possible 2014 initial bike ride. Today 3/25, it's snowing so hard I can't see more than 100 yards! Great to be here and to hear from you!

Funny our bikes are somewhat in tandem(I made a punny haha), my earliest bike is a '67 Schwinn Racer Deluxe 5 speed (Inherited from grandfather) then my two main schwinns are late 80's road bikes, originally 12 speed also. I recall the weather back east and I sure as heck don't miss it.. I can recall a windstorm so loud I didn't hear a 40' tree fall in out front yard right next to the house! Or summer time and feeling like your swimming through the air as you walk.. I understand about touring geometry being nice, one of my main bike brand obsessions is Sekai, specifically the Grand Tour models.. those are probably the only reason I'm so into biking, you see I have short legs and a long torso.. so for a traditional fit touring bikes are where it's at for me! And we're very glad to have you here, be sure to stop by the Classic and Vintage section to show off your bikes and make some new friends.

Edit: I was mistaken my '67 Schwinn is 3 speed internal geared.
