Giant Defy 5 or Specialized Allez compact?

Giant Defy 5 or Specialized Allez compact?
Started biking last year on a hand me down 1982 Schwinn Le tour. Biked 20 miles a day 2-3 days a week last year during the warmer months. I am really starting to get into to road biking. I have narrowed me decision for an entry level bike to the Giant Defy 5 $720 and the Specialized Allez compact $770. At this level does it basically come down to personal preference and budget? Any opinions from owners of these models?
