hello from new haven, ct
hey there,
long-time bike enthusiast but new to serious riding, in the market for a 'cross bike and the best deals around here right now seem to be the kona jake or the trek x01, although i lust after the '05 poprad but they are not available at the moment. anyone want to weigh in? i'm not a purist roadie, but i'm keen to give cyclocross a try, and since i'll be using the bike for commuting/city riding with some (relatively benign) off-roading as well, a 'cross bike seems like the way to go.
if anyone in/around new haven is into cyclocross or even just urban road riding and moderate off-road, let me know ~ always lookin for ride partners...
peace,
brie

Welcome brie, if I got another bike as an addition to the herd of bikes I already own, I would definitely consider a trek x01. I took a test ride on one and I liked it. There are several roads around here that are almost beyond what is comfortable on a road bike and I think the xo1 would be nice to have. I think with the right tires it could also be fairly good for touring. I think one of the reasons you don't see more of them is that most bike shops don't stock them except possibly during the cyclocross season.
