long distance fixed gear rider over 50

Hello to all,
Just signed up as I stumbled upon a forum for over 50 ish fixie riders, which seems like a niche I fit into. I ride 200k through 1400k events on my fg of 46x18. My last big ride was LEL and this last weekend I completed a 400k with 4 other team members. Has anybody done "Crush the Commonwealth" on fixed.

Hello and Welcome to Bike Forums.

How do you keep your legs from cramping?

Thanks for the welcome,
One thing I have discovered that works for me is to fill one water bottle with a mixture of 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp. honey and 1/4 tsp of table salt. I take a small drink of this about every 20 minutes and it is surprisingly refreshing. Mostly though is to stop every 2 hours or so, get off the bike, eat something good, do a few stretches and generally take a break. One thing about riding fixed is that (assuming your not on the plains) your cadence changes according to the terrain, uphill, downhill, flats, so your muscles experience a broad range of conditions because of the one gear. In other words the variation for me translates to minimal cramp experience. I'm not sure if that is physiologically sound but I ride in Eastern PA with lots of rolling hills!!
