Another Okie! Hello, I'm new to the site as well, and a novice biker. I'm not an authority, at all, on biking but from what I do think I know about buying a new bike is
A. Determine your purpose when biking. Will you be mountain biking? road biking? Touring?
B. Determine your size for a bike. I almost bought a bike meant for people like 6'+"
C. Determine your price range.
D. check online reviews and forums about bikes in your price range.
E. Unless you are dead set on a new bike, check out Craigslist and Ebay for great bike deals. I saved over $700.00 buying a used older model. I did the buy it now option cause I didn't want to risk losing the deal, but you can find name brands like Trek for $150.00 at the auctions.
