Hi, I'm Andy and I live in Oakland. I'm an undergrad at UC Santa Cruz. Any other Banana Slugs on Bike Forums?

I'm about as new to the forums as I am to biking. I just bought a used Raleigh road bike last night, but I owned my last bike when I was about six. Looking forward to going out soon and working the wobbles out of my ride.

I'm an ex-Santa Cruz county resident and took courses through the UCSC extention program -- therefore I consider myself a former slug. The silicon valley meltdown forced me out of CA. Hey you've got some of the best riding, road and mtb, in the world just outside your door, as long as you like hills. Enjoy your undergrad years and the SC scene. One of my favorite rides was Empire grade (to the end), drop down into Boulder Creek, then Hwy 9 back to Santa Cruz.
Keep the rubber side down.

Hey Wildwood, thanks for the tip. I look forward to trying out that route. My mountain biker friend loves the trails in upper campus. I take it that Empire is paved to the top?

Jim-Bob, I don't blame you for moving back to Oakland. The Santa Cruz vibe still kinda gives me the creeps.

AndyM,

Yes Empire is paved. As good as the road riding is in SC county, the mountain biking is truly superlative. There should be no lack of riding buddies either.
