Hi From Glendale

I'm here seeking information and advice on what to do with a mid-80s Univega bike. I bought it off of Craigslist years ago. The frame is ok, but I think everything else needs work. It is comfortable to ride and can be fast. I'm not sure if I should invest in it or get rid of it.

1---Welcome to BF!
2---What to do with your old Univega is hard to make suggestions about without knowing just how much work is needed, how much you can do and what the total cost will end up being.

Of course, I appreciate that. I'm familiarizing myself with this website, before I post photos and more details on the bike.
But in a nutshell, it's a 46cm mixte frame. The paint is pretty beat up. The bike seems to have been used for parts, it's a mish-mash: unmatched rims, one metal crank arm and one plastic. It has only one front gear wheel and one shifter. From my research of this bike online, it seems there should be more than one. No serial number.

Hello and welcome. You'll find more detailed help in our Classic & Vintage forum. Definitely post pics too.
