St. Louis Area

I've been busily posting in the other threads, and hadn't bothered to check in.

I'm 58, a police officer from the St. Louis area, and have been actively riding since 1974 or so. I started out kind of backwards, buying my first bike as a training device for my motocross efforts. After breaking bones on the course, I decided that the bike was a better idea.
I was almost exclusively a roadie for many years, but then our department got into the police mountain-bike thing, and I signed up. Been doing bike patrol now for the better part of ten years. I'm also the department "bike guy", who does all the maintenance, setup, fitting, and so forth.

We try to ride daily, weather permitting.

At home, I have a nice Trek 2120 roadster, one of the carbon fiber/aluminum jobs they quit making a couple of years ago. Nice bike, light, compliant, and reliable. Straight Shimano 105 components-nothing fancy.

I started mountain biking with a rebuilt Specialized Rockhopper, solid framed. After beating this beater around the woods for about a year, I bought a much nicer Schwinn Moab, the top-of the line job. Great bike! Alas, with my weird police schedule, the lack of good close trails, and the wife constantly worrying about me lying on a trail somewhere with busted whatevers, I pretty much quit woods riding.

My latest project is a home-built recumbent. (See the recumbent thread in the Pics section) I'm still refining this beast, but it has potential.

Welcome. I often thought if I had the job I really wanted it would be bike patrol.
