Hello everyone
As I've been getting more heavily into cycling, I noted that many of my Google searches were bringing me to posts made on this forum. I finally decided that it might be a good idea to register and participate. The community certainly seemed friendly.
As a bit of background, my father is big on cycling, and as a result I've had a bicycle of some sort for as long as I can remember. First it was one of those BMX-style bikes as a boy, and then a Mongoose mountain bike as a teenager. Biking never seemed particularly special, though - it was fun, but not something to obsess over. My father and I did a fairly short bicycling tour around Holland about a decade ago, and that wast the last time that I touched a bike... until a year ago.
My wife and a bit of luck brought me back to cycling. While away on a rotation for medical school, I discovered a small abandoned bicycle in student housing. It was fairly new and in decent condition. My wife was excited about it, so I brought it back and re-taught her how to ride. I followed up by buying myself a used, cheap Walmart mountain bike to match, and we rode some of the local trails around our city. My wife had a blast, and it became clear that we would be biking long-term. I got tired of the chain falling off my bike and sold it, then purchased a used Specialized Sirrus. To ensure that my wife would keep up, we went to our LBS and bought a new Cannondale Quick 4 Women's. The cycling bug has bitten us pretty hard now, and we cycle along the extensive city biking trail system every day that we have 2-3 hours to spare.
I'd like to learn more about bicycle upgrades and maintenance, but there's not much free time... and if it comes down to it, I'd rather be out cycling than reading about cycling! I still hope to be able to participate to the conversations here, but I'm guessing that my post count will remain fairly low for quite some time

Welcome! This a great forum with lots of knowledge distributed among its many members. I have a men's Cannondale Quick 4 and my wife has a Cannondale Adventure. We have really gotten into cycling in a big way, too. This site will feed your new addiction.
