Finally enjoyed the ride

Been around here and posted already over the last few months. So I finally thought I had something worth saying in an introduction.

I got my bike middle of April wanting to work off the extra lbs put on the last few years after quitting smoking, getting married, and becoming a dad. I'm 6' 220 and haven't lost a pound since I started riding but the fitness level is noticeably improving and I'm fitting into shorts I haven't worn in years.

I started out by taking my bike closer to work and pedaling in 4miles, then 8 miles. Now I'm riding the full 20 miles in the morning and bussing 8miles/riding 12miles home. Family duties, other commitments, and weather allow me to do this a couple 2-3 days a week and some weekend rides.

So today I rode the 10 miles to where our horses are and trimmed their feet. After I got done, I realized I had nothing to do. So the point of my thread; I had no hurry to get to work, no hurry to get home, no hurry to beat the weather, and no hurry to burn a calorie. And so I headed off a different direction going a round-about way home exploring parts of town I hadn't seen and just plain enjoyed the 20 mile ride home. What a great feeling.

Nice post. Nice bike. Stay with it. If you ride an hour every day (on average - more on some, less on others), your body's shape will change first (as you've noted). Eventually you'll also start to shed pounds. Been there; I'm excited for you. DB

Minnesota seems to be represented pretty well around this forum. Born and raised there, went to HS in Elk River. Worked in Mpls and areas north for years.

i peeled off the first 20lbs calorie counting. When that quit showing results, I figured it was time for another lifestyle change and working out in the basement feels like such unproductive time to me.
