Greetings from Downunder

Hi All,
have been lurking on these forums for a while and decided I should sign up so that I can get involved in the discussions.

I live in Figtree, a (hilly) suburb of Wollongong, about 80kms south of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia.
As a child all my spare time was spent around my bike and bike activities. My first bike was a Speedwell Barracuda that arrived one Christmas. That was followed by a Speedweel 3speed dragster that was converted to a MX type, ie, BMX style seat and handlebars. It lasted well until the frame was cracked, pushing it beyond it's designed abilities. After that (late 70s) I got a Mongoose which I loved. I can't recall exactly why I didn't keep it but I think it may have been something to do with getting my license and being able to drive rather than cycle. I regret that decision very much now.

Recently i was chatting with a work colleague in the tea room. She was talking about her upcoming house move and how they had to clear a stack of stuff from the garage. I asked if she had by any chance any bikes that they wanted to get rid of. She said "let me check with my husband. He has a few that he should get rid of" Anyway, long story short, I was gifted an 80s model Peugeot 10 speed in very good condition. That was the start of what appears now to be some sort of obsession...

I have since stripped that down and rebuilt/remodelled it into a nice simple ride. I have also inherited a 1978 Raleigh Grand Prix mixte that is currently in pieces awaiting a respray. The Raleigh came out of a discussion with a friend about the Peugeot - "I have one in the garage if you want it"

I am seriously thinking about a singlespeed now. I had considered changing one of the two that I have but I enjoy to ride them both just as they are which means that I will need to get another one to convert..... Not sure how the wife is going to take to that (although I think I have a rough idea)
