Hello Friends!

Hi Everybody,

I am excited to finally join this community! BF has been my time-waster for bike info/entertainment/trivia for at least the last few months.
I will probably ask more questions than I can answer, but hopefully I'll be able to contribute too. I have been casually biking and commuting in and around San Francisco for eight years. Outside SF, my life is a couple hours down the road in the Santa Cruz area. I have only ever ridden my junker bikes that I assembled from cheap parts, but I recently built my first decent touring bike from the spokes up.

Which brings me to another major reason I joined-- I plan to start a major bike trip within a couple weeks, it is uncharted territory for me, and frankly I am nervous. It will be great if I can network with people on here to join this newbie for some of the route. I'll be checking the touring forums. Glad to be here and see you on the rest of the site!

-Nick

Hey 10 Wheels,
SF to NYC. Hoping to leave around 7/11. I will be taking my sweet time staying with friends and family along the way. Crossing Nevada+Utah in July is what is shaking my confidence. I estimate I will begin that part around the last week of July. I plan to stick to these maps: Western Express | Adventure Cycling Route Network | Adventure Cycling Association , and after that I am relying on myself to have the hang of things enough to stray from the AC route so I can head to Chicago, PA, NY.

We did NY to LA in The Heat..June 25...August 23 ..Start Early 5AM and be done by 1PM.

You need some good lights to do that.

That looks crazy! ... and amazing. Congratulations. Many admirable people on here. Also thanks for that tip- I keep hearing good ideas from people: cooling packs, flap hat to cover the back of the neck, etc.
