New bike, new problems.
Hi everyone!
This is my first post on BikeForums and I feel at home already.
I have taken up biking once again after a season or two with my old bike sitting in the garage (too small, and it was cheaply made).
So on Sunday I bought a 2009 Cove STD (a few cosmetic scratches and scuffs) for $1200. Did I pay too much? , pics below... see for yourself.

here are the specs for pricing:
Frame: Cove STD
Fork: Marzocchi 66 with 1.5" steerer tube
Rear Shock: Marzocchi Roco World Cup
Front Wheel: Sun Ringle hub laced to Transition Revolution rim
Rear Wheel: Bontrager Big Earl complete wheel
BB: Truvativ Howitzer
Cranks: Truvativ Holzfeller OCT
Front Derailleur: Shimano Saint
Chain Guide: Blackspire Dewlie with bash guard
Rear Derailleur: Sram X-7
Shifter: Sram X-7
Seat Post: RaceFace
Seat: Fizik Nisene
Stem: Truvativ Holzfeller
Handlebar: Truvativ Boobar
Headset: FSA
Brakes: Avid Code
My problems are: while pedalling up a fairly gentle slope my chain snapped. A single link popped out and the chain fell to the ground.
The chain is a SRAM, and it seems slightly rusted. I was changing the rear gears (the bike is a 2 X 9) when it broke. I need to change the tires, they are pretty worn down. Finally, I need to buy a good new seat (the fizik nisene is pretty crappy).
So my questions are:
A: Did I pay too much? (I'd just like to know)
B: How much will it cost for a new chain, tires, and a good seat?
C: What is the average life of a chain?
D: Was it my fault the chain broke, or was it just old? (I wasn't really pushing it, just changing gears on a small hill.
Thanks for your help,
James

Hey James,
Welcome to Bike Forums from a Texas road rider.
Never seen a bike like that.
Take it to a local shop for a complete check.

Welcome to BF! As said above, it might help to have a good LBS give it a good once-over so you could find out what your bike’s condition and prognosis are.
