My new mechanical and physical addiction

Greetings, All,
In 1975 I purchased a Raleigh Super Course; I was fourteen, and had an older brother and father who liked to ride. We lived in Evanston, just north of Chicago, and did local cruises as well as multi-day trips into and around Wisconsin. When I acquired my drivers license, cycling went away, as did the bike.

Fast forward until about two years ago, when I came across a 1986 Centurion twelve speed- and the addiction started! I tuned the bike and started getting my muscles back. I also slowly acquired the repair stand and specialty tools needed to tune, repair and rebuild these old bikes. Since my day job takes most of the daylight hours, my riding is limited to the weekends, but I try to cover 200 miles per month. Not much, but I feel fantastic!

I have since sold the Centurion and completely rebuilt /restored two old Late '90's Kestrels, and my current ride is a 2007 Blue RC-4 that I built with SRAM components, carbon bars, stem & seatpost, and it rides beautifully. Traveling 25-30 miles non-stop on Saturday and Sunday mornings, averaging between 17-18 mph has gotten pretty easy- especially down here in the Charlotte area, where country roads are just minutes from my front door.

Most recently I acquired a brand new, never been built Pinarello Opera Leonardo frame, hand made in Italy, and have almost justified building it up and using it myself. I'm not usually in the market for such exquisite items, but the price was right, and rather than reselling it for profit I think I'll just outfit it, ride it and enjoy it for what it is. I've never been the 'trailer queen' type consumer; I like nice things used as they were meant to be.
