Hi, from Toronto, Canada

Hi all, I bought a used bike $100 bike and cycled for the first time since I was a teenager, (I'm 22). I biked to and from work and getting groceries, saved money on transit and lost a ton of weight. I'm now planning on making cycling more of a hobby.

Looking for some recommendations on a more durable bike. I'm mainly going to be riding on pavement for commuting, but would still like something that will hold up on long rides 5+ hours long on different kinds of terrain, but I'm definitely not one for a mountain biking. I'm thinking a cyclocross bike. Any recommendations? Hopefully something below $1k?

Welcome to Bike Forums. The good folks in the Commuting forum can give you lots of good ideas for your next bike. Many of them live in Canada too. :)

Hi Sinphase,

I have done a lot of riding in Toronto, I'm in the burbs now.

I was looking at a low end Cross bike the Miele Andiamo Brown's Sports & Cycle Toronto | Clearance | Road Bikes

Brown's had them on sale recently, they may not have many size choices left.

Most touring bikes would also bea good commuter - strong wheels, relaxed geometry, braze ons for racks, fenders.

Hey Sinphase,

Welcome to Bike Forum. How you holding up with the cold weather heading your way?
What make of bike did you get for $100? Saying hello from the west coast of Canada.
How did it feel getting back on a bike after being out the saddle for a few years?

I'm originally from Vancouver so I miss the forgiving winters and sunny but not too hot summers. I'll be graduating soon and can't wait to get home.

As a life long transit user and vehemently anti car owning I've been subject to Toronto's horrible transit system for 4 years, so cycling has really encouraged be to explore the city a little more. I'd really like to bike to Niagara before returning to the west coast.
