Central PA Commuter

Many times Google has taken me to helpful info on the bikeforums site, often when I had questions about an 86 Schwinn Voyageur I found on Craigslist a few years ago. I just found another one, an 87 this time, and thought I'd join the site to ask a question about it. It was great to see how many people posted responses with interesting information, within just a few days.

Hello to you.
I love this site. Can I just spill some typing here?
Voyageur Eh?
I have a schwinn voyageur that I recently acquired. What a fine road bike it is. Then day i found it in the barrio, I nearly kriegd cause I thought it was a Paramount. The good man who sold it to me actually would ride it. I could tell he had loved this bike, and he did well on it for 120 actual. ( I kicked up the twenty cause Im Vegas like that. ) It had been spray painted orange, ( odd because a version of the world sport voyager was orange or something like that. He had marked his name in WHite paint pen, and even made a nifty graphic indicating lever positions and gears ala sting-ray style. He signed ....GustavoMX.....im dense so it took me a month to figure out......DUH MX=...Mexico.
I figured he just had redesignated the brand. It had ridiculous aero bars, and he had stomped the toe cages flat. ( can't says I blame him ) it also had some kind of computer thingy. I took off all that crap. Got some SR tour bar( narrow) black clothed em, gave it a vintage corsa saddle, and cheap sticky black tires 27"
Its pretty awesome and fast. Triple chain ring is wild in the very low gears. Shifts nearly silent with sun tour long cage style RM. I don't know how the front makes that huge jump across rings, but like magic, it does it nearly silently. brazed on brakes, 3 mount water cages. Wobler sealed hubs and wheels, hardly any orange spray paint on the chain!
I suppose in its heart this bike is a PANASONIC. it does not ride like a schiwnn and from what I have read 84 is the year to have.
Heres the thing... its too small. It hurts me after a while, and with a road bike this is fatal
I like big bikes and off hand I believe this one is a 58cm. Im going to sell it, That is all.

Sounds like you got a pretty interesting bike. (How about a picture?!) I paid $280 for my first one, I think. Too much, but it had been taken pretty good care of and looked great. It fits me well and has been worth the money for me. For the 87 I just bought I paid $120. It is in good shape. Tiny rust spots here and there, and scratches, but appears to have hardly been ridden. The only issue was a very wobbly front wheel, but I was able to get it true. I think someone might have tried to true it before and messed it up. Eventually I might replace brake hoods, bar tape, toe clips, etc. But for now probably the only thing I expect to buy is tires. (The seller put new tires on it, but they seem pretty cheap and heavy.)
