Greetings from sunny Southern California

Happy Holidays to all. I'm new to forums but certainly not new to bicycles. I grew up riding bicycles everywhere in Northern California (Bay Area and SF proper). I learned how to ride in the early '60's on the steep hills of south San Mateo and learned how much it hurts to fall off at the same time (I was only about 5). I've had the iconic Schwinn Stingray. Then I traded the Stingray for a Schwinn Racer. I set that up with a two speed kick back, motocross bars, a 27" front with a 1.25" tire and a 25" or 26" on the back. That was a great bike! I was in Fremont then, while at the same time, just up the way in Marin County, ol' Gary Fisher was playing around with Schwinn 10 speeds and making mountain bikes on Mt Tam. If only I'd been up there...

I had a nice road bike that was stolen when I was 18 and a Trek aluminum well before they started making decent bikes. I had a Miyata Ridgerunner that I put 2000k on in Europe only to have it stolen in San Francisco. That was followed with a Diamondback that I upgraded to a Chris Chance "Buck Shaver" frame and have been riding that since about 1995, with some wheel and brake upgrades in 2000. Next up for that bike is some expensive brakes that will allow me to upgrade the wheels to "29ers" from the 26" I'm currently stuck with. Can't get 26" tires that run up to 100psi anymore. Oh ye Gods of IRS, bestow upon me a large refund this year so I can buy parts!

These days my riding is either "time trial" like commuting (17 mph avg, at 145 bpm avg. for about an hour - Not bad for an old guy. OMG! Did I just say that? {57 is the new 35!!!**) or I'm recreational fitness riding around the Palos Verdes area, the Santa Monica mountains and the beach path in between.

Anyway, about 5 years back, I acquired a wife who sort of likes to ride bicycles, so I bought us a beautiful Santana Arriva tandem, only to discover after about three years, she really hates it. I think she hates anything I like. Long, short of that is I'm un-acquiring the wife and must part with the tandem (wahh!!) for obvious reasons.

I enjoy browsing the posts on here and will likely stick my nose in here and there if I think I have something to say. As soon as get my Elite membership going, I will post the Santana for sale. Such a sweet riding bicycle!

Onward! Happy New Year! Be safe with lots of blinky blinks on the back and a strobe or two up front.

Best regards to all![/I]
