Greeting and salutations from West Florida!
Hello all!
I am new to the forums, although I must confess that I have been lurking here and there for a while now as I have been researching and gathering info prior to my bike purchase. I read several threads that helped refine the process of finding my first road bike, so thank you for the wealth of info to be found on this site.
So a little over a month ago I was ready to lay down somewhere between $1,500-2,500+gear for what I thought would be a decent road bike. But after much reading and talking with some people who have been riding for some time, I decided to take their advice and ride as many different bikes as I could and to take my time in doing so. The cool thing is that I was able to get some seat time on some amazing rides which helped me to get a feel for the spectrum of bikes that are out there.
So to make a long story short, I had narrowed my search down to a couple of new Cannondales, a CAAD10 105, and a SuperSix Evo 105 build, and that was about it. I had test ridden some pricier bikes and some less pricey but decided that I didn't need anything greater than 105 for what I would be doing. And then it happened, I found myself test-riding an 8+ year old bike that felt nearly every bit as nice as the new stuff I had test ridden but for a fraction of the cost. The decision was easy, and I have no regrets.
I have completed a couple of rides with no ill effects. The bike fits me well, and I am looking forward to putting some miles on it. I added some Shimano 105 pedals, flipped the stem, and swapped out the tired Bontrager Race Lite tires for some new Continental Grand Prix 4000s II's. So far so good. Enjoy!
