One of the great privileges of driving a rental car. No responsibility for upkeep or damage. I always get the full coverage and when I sign the rental agreement, I tell the clerk, "This car is your problem, not my problem." I never had to use the insurance but it is a good feeling, if I survive a crash, the car is not my problem.

No one has to buy the insurance offered by car rental companies if their own car insurance adequately covers them. I've NEVER been asked by car rental personnel or online sites anywhere about if I already had insurance, but only if I wanted to purchase any OPTIONAL additional coverage. The only things ever necessary were a valid driver's license and credit card.

The credit card free "coverage" is only for damage to the rental car and provides no liability coverage at all.
Would be car renters who do not carry any car insurance [presumably only people who do not own a car, not car car light people] need to, or at least should buy the outrageously priced coverage from the car rental companies unless they want to risk financial ruin.

Wrong context. OP doesn't have any car insurance to begin with.

???
Perhaps you should reread my post and note that my accurate response is in context with posts I quoted, plus the second paragraph specifically provides advice for people like the OP who have no car insurance.

A for effort, but insisting you're right does not make you so.

The OP asked how to obtain rental insurance without already having primary auto insurance. You responded to someone else (who was also out of context) by elaborating on how one does not need to "buy the insurance offered by car rental companies if their own car insurance adequately covers them. "

As mentioned, OP doesn't have auto insurance to begin with.

Cute emoji though.
