LCF webpages, facebook sites, forums etc.

Do you know of any webpages, facebook sites, forums (aside from this one) etc. devoted to living car free, living car light, sustainable living, and related topics?

Might be nice to collect a list of them here.

Are there any other LCF webpages, facebook sites, forums etc.? Or are LCF webpages, facebook sites, forums etc. not popular?

This thread listed some sites for sustainable living:
http://www.bikeforums.net/living-car...resources.html

What about others that are somewhat more LCF specific?

A soliloquy?

I also saw the "walking bus" thread that could have spurred some interesting ideas, yet was mostly ignored.

Is there something going on here?

I noticed that thread too.

As I recall it was about a way that families could be a little less car-dependent ... a little more car light. Perhaps even car free. It promoted the human-powered transportation method of walking.

I suspect that that few if any LCF regulars have school age children at home and do not spend much time thinking about transportation issues foreign to their own provincial outlook, especially transportation for older or younger or disabled dependents.

Ignoring the snarky tone, I don't see that as relevant.

I don't have children, and one needn't have them to be interested in how children can be introduced to either a car free or car/bus dependent lifestyle in their formative years.

IMO one of the key factors determine how much people will drive locally is their perceived walking range. Those used to walking don't blink at walking around town, 1/2 a mile to a restaurant with a "walk off the meal" trip home.

OTOH- children conditioned to walk no farther than the corner where the bus stops, or out to the driveway where their personal uber driver awaits, grow up to be the people who drive all over the mall looking for a spot near the entrance. Or make 3 stops within 2 blocks to pick the Sunday paper and stop for bagels, and coffee.

So, whether one has children or not, this is very legitimate fodder for this forum and anybody who truly cares about promoting a car free or lite lifestyle.

You asked "Is there something going on here" to explain the lack of response; I responded with a possible explanation for the lack of interest by the regulars on this list; whether you agree or not is irrelevant. Also irrelevant is your comment that you consider the walking bus topic legitimate, since no one claimed that it wasn't.

You should occasionally run your snark detector on your own posts.

It wasn't your explanation that I considered irrelevant. It's the thinking that being childless means that school bus issues don't matter that I consider misplaced.

Actually irrelevant was a poor choice of words, I should have been clearer about then point.

As for my snark detector --- yes, it needs recalibration from time to time, but this was a pretty gentle chide and shouldn't have offended anybody.

There are some facebook pages. One in particular was very active and intreresting, and pargticularly about bikes. I gave up on facebook about a year ago, so unfortunately I don't have the info on hand. But interested facebookers could probably find them without much difficulty.

I always used to get a notification from google when new content about carfree was available. I would get a few hits a month--not really very much.

You can look back over the LCF archives to find other websites that have been mentioned in the past. I know that we had a thread about Bikeyface not too long ago.
