Very nice attitude

I have been lurking here for a few months. I had a comment and a question. and that is, was this forum longer than 2 pages at some point? I thought it was longer for some reason...did the forum crash or something?

More importantly, I just wanted to say all you car free people have my utmost admiration. Not that you're seeking any unsolicited praise, but you will still get it from me. I am aware many have quite a struggle to maintain the path. You are doing a wonderful thing for me, and my family, and this giving planet. Nicely done, and your attitudes are awesome.

I am not car free, and I don't see it happening soon. No excuses, just living a more selfish life.

Anyway, thanks for your efforts. Back to the shadows.

Go to the bottom of the thread index page where it has "Display Options" and select "From the Beginning" instead of the default "Last Month".

About your other comment. In my own case I don't see being carfree as being particularly selfless or deprived. It has its advantages and those are often discussed here. For me personally, being carfree is also something of a lifestyle research project and an exploration of possibilities.

many here are actually "car-lite"... this could be something to strive for... it's amazing how many errands can be run on bike... start using the bike instead of the car on some and see how it goes

My guess the large majority are car-lite, with just a handful of adult breadwinners who are car free.

I'm carfree (and soon to be completely off the grid) - I don't know anything about this 'adult breadwinner' stuff you talk of though

Same here. It's just logistically easier for me and my BF. And I plain don't like cars. So admiring me for being carfree is like admiring me for having such a healthy weight just because lots of people struggle to get and stay thin. Well, yeah, THEY do struggle and they deserve the admiration or what not, but I personally make ZERO effort not to gain weight: I just eat whatever I feel like eating and exercise as much as I feel like exercising - and I stay slim, thanks to genetics and not virtuous behaviour.
