Hmm...
I'm still giving this some though, but next year when I go to college, depending where I am living I plan on selling my car. We'll see. I only drive it to school in the winter, that's pretty much it.

I suggest you just go ahead and do it. Cars are expensive to own, and, especially in college towns and large cities, they're not even necessary.

Before you make any purchase, check out the local transit system. I was always told that the buses around here would woefully insufficient. Yet when I did some research and started using them to get the work in the winter, I discovered they weren't that bad at all.
If you checked into it, you might find some acceptable alternatives to winter car travel.

You should consider living on or near campus, and not only for the carfree reasons. "Campus life" (I know, it's a lame term) is an interesting part of the college experience. Obviously there are parties and lots of sex, but also study sessions, intramural sports, convenient facilities, and a chance to meet people from all over the world. Not to mention free broadband.
I had to commute to college, so I missed out on a lot of this experience until I got to graduate school. If I could do it over, I would definitely live close to campus.

Today I had to rotate the tires on my car.
*rolls eyes*
This really isn't necessary to own a car here... Once winter comes I won't be complaining though.

Check out your school, they may offer discounts or free rides on local transit.
