a decidedly non-car-free couple of weeks
Decided a year or two ago that I was not going to make everything hard for myself by taking on too many challenges at once.
I went to seattle and got quite a few rides here & there in cars during the trip. Got back to Philadelphia, did one car trip to the faraway suburbs to do a presentation about Haiti.
And then today, off to Haiti again. Got a car ride to the airport, and will be picked up in Port-au-Prince by car.
I'm bringing tents & safe drinking water filters sufficient for about 30 people on my trip. Quite heavy & bulky. So it's nice not to have to travel without a car. Life is crazy.
Writing this from the Fort Lauderdale airport and I'll be in Haiti in a few hours. I'll let you know how the trip goes. Hoping I will get picked up by car at the airport too so I can get home and get some sleep after the trip.
( a little about what happened to me in Haiti during the Jan 12 earthquake is here at my sister's web site)
PS - besides this stuff, i've been mostly car-free and mostly motor-transportation free too. Don't own a car, don't want to own a car, and I travel by bike, snow or shine.

cerewa, best wishes for the trip. I'm glad that you have the courage, energy and compassion to do so much good in the world.
