How would you secure your valuables?

A car is a portable couch with locks, and hiding places. A bike is not; one of the nicest things about it, the connection you feel to the rest of the world, means that anyone can come along and mess with anything. You're all well aware of this.

Seattle has a giant lake to the east, and an inlet from the ocean to the west. There are a lot of swimming beaches. It can be horrible driving to these, thanks to traffic and parking issues, but all of them are fun and convenient bike rides. My favorite has trees within 50 feet of the water, and locking a bike to them has always been plenty secure. Not locking the bike would probably be ok. The closest beach is slightly more prone to crime, though, and there are good reasons to go to this one sometimes.

But, obviously, it would be a problem to take your wallet and cell phone swimming with you. There are waterproof cases these can be stuffed into, but they trap a lot of air, and are cumbersome to clip to your shorts. It would be a bad idea to dive ( not scuba, but from a board ) like this. Last time I used the diving boards, my sunglasses were taken. If you enjoy swimming, that pretty much keeps you from being able to keep a watchful eye on your stuff on shore.

What would you do in this situation? Mind you, it'll be nine or ten months before I see the sun again, so it's not an immediate problem. But it's bothered me all summer, and I'd like to work something out for next year.

There are some locking boxes made for mounting on bike racks such as:
https://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-Lockin...ef=pd_sbs_sg_1

Not real secure, but would at least deter someone who might otherwise make a quick grab of something left on the bike. I'd think it would be ok if you're swimming nearby and can at least give an occasional glance to where your bike is locked. Of course a downside of this kind of bike luggage is that it isn't as quick and easy to remove it when you don't need it.

This is a drawback to bikes. There are different brands of trunk boxes and mos bike shops carry at least one--similar to the one prathman linked to.

Don't tell anybody, but I keep a $50 bill rolled up in my seat tube, "just in case".

Lockbox and a bike cable? Lock it to a tree or what.

Sunglasses, money and I.D. don't care if they get wet.Leave the rest at home.

If somebody made me carry that stuff,I would bury it somewhere, just don't forget where.
