Surprised there's not more Chicago mentions besides one. I moved to Chicago from sunny CA and have been car free for 2 years. It's been one of the better decisions of my life. I love the pub transportation here and Chicago is a very bike friendly city. I am determined to bike through my 3rd winter here. I've been a little too nervous about it and then I get lazy but next winter it's on!
I love beating the bus and taxis to my destination. It's not every time that I can do that but I've raced friends on my bike and them in their cars and got to the destination quicker on my bike.

I misunderstood at first, and thought of riding my bike to the bar. Thanks. Now I want a beer.

Never Fear - Chicago even has 'pub' transportation. I prefer to call it Drunk Trolly but it's a red trolly you climb aboard that takes you bar hopping at night (and you're able to drink while aboard). Haven't been on it yet.

Wow, I am surprised the nimimum wage in NYC isn't higher than the federal minimum.

In San Francisco it is $9.92, Washington is $8.67, and I imagine cost of living in NYC is just as high if not higher than those places. Ya'll new yorkers get screwed.

True living wage (different from State Min) is $11.96 here, but I am 'lucky' to work for a 'startup' because I am 'getting in on the ground floor'. Fack.
That said, I out earn my friends in other cities.

Most jobs out here start people at $10-$12 dollars, $12 p/h is the 'unofficial NYC minimum wage'

Here it is $8.26 for a single adult...

Interesting calculator to say the least.

^That calculator is such a work-day time waster for me. Theoretically I can take my job anywhere, so why shouldn't I take my job somewhere that I'd be earning 5 dollars an hour over living wage right?
The other fun/will make you depressed thing is playing with the negative net worth calculators.
