London Calling: "Barclays Cycle Superhighway" Video

Well, what do you think of it? Would you like one in the town you live in?
And one thing which appeared to leap out at me: Where are the women cyclists? There were only a few shown. How can that be "representative" of residents there?

I think it's a fantastic plan. I haven't ridden on the superhighways, so I have no idea of how well designed they are. I think that on innovative projects like this, it's good to budget some funds for feedback, follow-up and redesign after real cyclists have had a chance to use the facility for a year or two.
One thing I loved was the "repaving to provide a smoother and more comfortable ride." The streets around here are so potholed that you have to swerve a lot when you're riding, which can be dangerous as well as slowing you down a lot. Again, having funds available for good maintenence and cleaning is even more important than coming up with the original funds to build the damn thing.

Cheesy but informative helmet-cam video of "London Cycle Superhighway 8 (CS8) westbound:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2coG...eature=related
The blue lanes seem to start and stop, although this might be an uncompleted section of the CS. Also, note cars being driven in the blue parts--a common problem with bike lanes everywhere, I think.
"Update" with helmet-cam vid of the good points and bad points of CS8:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNgwBb6L-QM
This is what I meant--Boris Johnson and the traffic authorities should be studiying videos like this one, and then redesign the CS to serve real-world cyclists better.
I hope we hear from people sho have actually used the London CS. From a first glance, the Cycling Superhighway just looks like a standard bike lane with a little blue paint thrown down for good measure.

One of these from Seattle to Portland (no pun intended) would be great. I commute to work, and I have to take all kinds of twists and turns and ride through ugly industrial and commercial zones to get there. A dedicated bike freeway would be outstanding.

It's OK but you're riding in the gutter! I've never really like that place on the road. There are times when the bike lane is wide enough but sometimes it shrinks to a couple of feet.
