I am Spiderman !

The little guy was all of three years old and waiting in line with his parents at the grocery store behind me and when they walked up behind me he said " you have a bike... and a helmet. I have a bike and a helmet too."

I told his parents that I wore the helmet because I fell down a lot and we had a good laugh at that.

The little guy proceeded to tell me that he had a Spiderman bike and that he was in fact, Spiderman. I could just imagine him bombing around on his bike saving the world from evil and for that I am thankful because this world needs more superheroes. I told him that riding his bike would keep him strong and healthy and he said he was already super strong and showed me his muscles.

His dad asked me if I always shopped with my bike and I said yes, and that if I had bigger loads, like 100 pounds of shelving, that I'd bring my trailer and he said "that must be hard and that this will give you legs of steel."

Told him it was not that hard and that I already had the legs as I don't drive and ride pretty much everywhere.

Upon leaving we were walking out together and Spiderman had to check out my ride and test the bell to make sure my bike was safe and then he spun a web and swung over to their car with his parents with a whoosh.

:)

That made me smile, thanks.

I hope he wears a helmet while swinging around from spider webs.

The best way to advocate for the value of the bicycle as a utility vehicle is to be out there and be approachable... we can show off our rigs and rides here but in many cases we are preaching to the choir.

When I picked up my new shop shelving a few weeks ago I had the trailer loaded up and a fellow walked up and looked at the load and said... "I should have rode my bike".

I am fortunate to live centrally (although that was a choice) so there isn't much I need that requires me to travel more than 5 miles one way and there isn't much that I cannot haul with a bicycle.

Amen, brother. You won't meet many people if you are driving a car, but with a bicycle, there's no end of people asking you questions. It's sort of like being a rock star, only you don't have to autograph CDs. :)

Rock stars don't actually have to be able to sing anymore.
