No, the title is not a typo; I mean cart:

This may seem like a toy, but where I live, this is a very big deal. A golf cart can take you to heaven:

or to hell:

or anything in between:

(continuing for more photo capacity...)

But, the big deal is not the destinations, but the journey: Wide, level, segregated, multi-use paths:

I could show a hundred photos like those, because that is the journey, all they way. You go a mile at a time between driveways, occasionally hitting a gated community:

There are a couple intersections, marked with signs "Golf cart crossing", but just as often, you skip the traffic:

Many of the people in my neighborhood live right on the golf course:

And what began as a way for them to get to their rounds:

...wound up as a way for all the people in the neighborhood to have another transportation option, whether they golf or not. This infrastructure runs from my condo to the mall and Walmart, with lots of worthy destinations in between. I can get to the stadium, the grocery, Dad's house, sister's, and lots of bars and restaurants and such.

It costs about a buck in battery life and just a little more in electricity to go up to about 30 miles at a time. I only have about a 20 square mile area to roam, so that's enough. Very little maintenance is required. The only financial risk is that I'll load up on extras like fancy wheels:

or a lift kit that I don't even need:

OK, so I've taken a few steps down that road, but still, it beats insurance and gas, and I can stop any time I want...

This isn't much of a solution for most people in most places. But, everything lines up here to make this make sense for me.

(edit) I'm not sure how my dog Merckx got in as a thumbnail, but she rides sometimes, too, and she's welcome to roam the outdoor mall and eat at the many outdoor restaurants, also at Petco, and a few times a year at the baseball game.

I envy your beautiful warm location. I visited Coral Gables a few years back and liked the area. I have to imagine how high humidity feels these days. In the Northern Rockies it's like a desert in the summer even with some rivers and creeks around.
