What else besides?

So it finally happend to me. I came home yesterday morning to an open gate, and now am one bike down. Gate was locked, but they cut the lock:notamused: and took the wifes orange d7 electra. They also stole my push mower, and some scrap metal. Of course the dogs slept right through all this, and so my wife is freaking out that her window was open and she did not hear anything.

I have put the bike on a registration list, have also filed the serial # with the PD. I have been checking craigslist, and have wondered the various camps in the surrounding area. Flyers have been posted, so now I am just trying to think of what else I can do besides wait.

I'm so sorry.

Thanks

She is being a great sport about the bike part, since my road bike was in the shed, and my other bike is at the shop.

I also have a d21 frame set, with most of the parts to replace the bike. The hard part is that she requires accommodation, and I hope they crash the bike before they realize it. Her bike has a splice so one hand operates both the breaks, and with the twist shifter on the left hand too.

Unfortunately theft is a part of our bicycle culture. You somehow have to come to grips with it. You can insure bicycles or in high theft areas you can simply buy only used bikes. Lock them as best you can and just deal with it when it happens.

While it is a pain, bicycles are such a great transportation value that you can afford to replace them once in a while and still do better than driving a car or even taking public transit.

prepare for the next time; small motion activated cameras in inconspicuous locations, not advertising (store in a shed, garage or home), away from prying eyes.

Web cameras are so cheap now and some are capable of live streaming, so it doesn't matter if they see it and try to destroy the camera.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. If there are pawn shops in your area, you may want to alert/check with them. Other than that, I can't think of anything else that you haven't already done.

Just yesterday we were in a pawn shop looking for a lawn mower and we saw one of the bikes that was stolen from us last year. It was a nice Trek hard tail MTB that my son got his son for $15 at a yard sale. The pawn shop was asking $300 for it.

There really isn't much we can do about this bike. We don't have photos or even the serial number. The cops actually don't get very excited about stolen bikes. One time a cop even told me that as far as he's concerned, it's finders-keepers when it comes to bikes.

Keep checking Craigslist of course. Those accomodations should help in identifying the bike. I hope you recover what was stolen.

Did you file a claim with your homeowner's insurance?

Always keep your bikes locked when you leave them inside your home or in your garage or in your backyard.
