First bike purchase

So I want to buy a road bike as I'm really into cycling at the gym etc, I know about main things I'm meant to look at before I buy a bike but I don't know what I should buy, I have a couple of things I'm looking at and can you tell me which is worth the money and better etc?
Cell Lapa 1.0
ROAD RACER BICYCLE - MEN'S JAMIS VENTURA SPORT | Bicycles | Gumtree Australia Mandurah Area - Halls Head | 1068352366
Please let me know, I've gone down to nearest bike shop and they only have road bikes over $2000, and that's way out of my price range....
So just lemme know which bike has good frames/are affordable etc.
My price range is up to about $800.

Are there any other nearby bike shops? When I was shopping for my road bike I found some nice bikes in your price range. Canondale CAAD8, Fuji Roubaix and some entry level Trek's.

There are lots of second-hand road bikes around. Cheap as chips.

The Ventura Sport seems like a well reviewed bike.

Road Bike Review has good listings. Here are some listed by price.

Road Bike Reviews - RoadbikeReview.com

See what is well reviewed and then see which stores in your area that carry the bikes. Most stores will be happy to order you a bike if they carry the brand. Try to get a test ride of the bikes you are considering before you buy if possible. Most LBS (Local bike store) bikes are quality bikes. Mostly you need to find the one that appeals to you.

There are lots of used bikes around and this might be a good idea for a newbie, since newbies frequently need some experience riding to get a sense of that they need. That was my strategy when I started. But if you somehow have figured this all out, then I would say go for what you want. (confession: I'm still buying used bikes )

I prefer used bikes also. Do you think most newbies have the knowledge to select a good used bike? Or will they be better off buying an entry-level new bike from a good LBS? (Given that the OP indicated he has $800 to spend.)
