Recommnendations for night riding in Northern VA?

I'm training for a 24 hr race and want to get in some night riding. Anyone have any suggestions for a good (i.e. safe) place out Fairfax (preferred) - Heardon - Purcellville area? I'm specifically looking for good roads with low traffic (yeah, I know that's a tough combination).

Thanks!

There might be a few beauties out of Leesburg if I remember. Try a search on ridewithgps. I know there are 200k up to 600k rides all mapped out from there and have done over the years. Safety is relative when riding 24 hours straight although I thought last years Rivers and Bridges was well designed/mapped for the night riding portion because you could finish the first 400k in the light and then the 200k loop was pretty much on all back roads. I think there was a fellow who did it in just over 24hours. This ride is probably too far away....maybe 49 minutes by car but it is beauty and is not too hilly. I would guess the route is up on ridewithgps.

The local RBA posts here often and will probably better info

Bikes: Co-Motion Cappuccino Tandem,'88 Bob Jackson Touring, Co-Motion Cascadia Touring, Open U.P., Ritchie Titanium Breakaway, Frances Cycles SmallHaul cargo bike. Those are the permanent ones; others wander in and out of the stable occasionally as well.

Is riding the C&O/Allegheny Paccage an option? I have ridden big stretches of it after dark and as long as you have good glasses for the bugs and you avoid the rain puddles you will have just a few roads to cross and no dealings with sharing space with cars. That will also give you water access on the C&) with all of the pump stations.
