Machka and other I now know why Amanda is doing the Flatlands as her place of choice for riding her record. She had a major crash a few years't ago with some brain injury. She is riding the flatlands because she doesn't have to worry about cars hitting her. I was hit the 2nd time by a drunk back in Jan. He just nicked me on my left side by the waist or it would have been worse. This has shaken my confidence on riding that route which just happened to be my favorite route anymore after dark. It doesn't help any that a walker was killed by a car along this road about 3 miles from where that accident happened. For that reason I have bought a gravel bike(2016 Raleigh Tamland 1) and my first gravel race is Sept. 9th The Pony Express 120. So yeah lots of us can't understand why or fathom how she can ride all those laps every day at Flatlands but I understand exactly why. She feels safe there and is getting some support from there other than her parents.

A little update- Amanda entered her first time trial since completing the year/100k mile records last night and did extremely well. She won the women's division and also set a new women's record on the 15k Fort Desoto course completing it in 21.07 at 26.5 mph avg.

Q&A: Mileage world record holder Amanda Coker | VeloNews.com
Was hoping for something a little more in depth, but VeloNews did an interview with her.

That's an excellent article. Weren't you riding with her the day that guy came to interview her? I know I met him in the parking lot and then got to ride with them for a lap on the trail. Didn't want to overstay my welcome so I dropped off when I got to 4 Cornors and went and did my Hunters Green ride.

Awesome! Go Amanda! If you're reading these boards, or if John V can pass a message, know that you are an inspiration to a lot of people, even non-cyclists. I've mentioned you a few times to my cycling buddies, especially those who assume the overall record is always held by a man and the "women's record" is a second rate achievement. I tell them that when it comes to the most miles ridden in a year, the overall record is held by a woman, but the "men's record" is still in play. ;-) Then I tell them about your average speed. :-)
