2017 -- 1000-Mile Month Challenge

Note: I know this won't fit into everyone's training plans, or life plans, and I know this will not interest everyone, so there is absolutely no pressure to participate in this challenge. If you don't want to participate in this one, that's OK. But it is do-able (I've done it many times) and may encourage some of us to get out there and ride more.

The challenge: Ride 1000 miles in at least one month this year ... or as many months as you want ... go for all 12 months if you have the time and energy!!

I know lots of you ride this amount and more during your "season", so let us know how it's going.

=======================================
If you don't quite make 1000 miles in a month, check out the 1000-Kilometer Month Challenge:

Being retired helps. I completed six 1,000+ mile months last year and hope to do more this year. We'll see what happens.

1,012 miles (1,629 Km) for the month of February. Starting early to see if I can do more 1K months than last year.

Rats. I did 957 miles this April. I was hoping for 1000, but we had some lousy weather this last week. The plan for today was to do the MN Ironman century, but it was 40°F and raining and so I did the short route - 55 miles. So I was close, but....

Maybe at some point later in the year.

I wish I could pile up the miles like John V., but my job gets in the way. I guess I should jettison the job, huh?

Two in a row for me too. 1002 miles in March, 1029 in April. Both months had over 60,000 ft of elevation gain.

Not much in the way of elevation here in Central Florida but the brutal winds that we've been having since November has more than made up for it.

Nice riding, everyone!

I live in the Alps, so not much flat riding around here, but I prefer hills to wind any day.

My wife fractured her wrist on May 1st so I have had to take extra days off the bike this month for doctors appointments and her surgery. Almost didn't make it but today's 55 mile ride pushed me over with some room to spare.

Finally. 957 in April, 906 in May, and.....1016 in June, including 330 in the last 6 days. Phew. Hoping to match that again in July and August. Health and weather permitting....

June starts our hurricane/rainy season in Florida and the first two weeks lived up to its reputation. Missed a bunch of ride days because of heavy thunderstorms and ended up with 966 miles (with today's century) for June, which broke my 1K/ month streak. 😢

I managed a 4th month in a row with 1048 in June. It surprised me, since I took a week off for vacation, but a few long days made up for it.

Cataract surgery at the beginning of the month kept me off the bike for a week. A few rained out days, like today, didn't help either so I missed my 1K month again with 757 miles; my lowest mileage this year.

1400 miles for July. I probably would've hit 1000 for August (as I did last year) but a family vacation hiking in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons will cost me a week of riding - I'm not upset in the least.
