It's possible Randi suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome. He hasn't been the same since he did those rides, lots of DNF's. I know he blames something else.

I was talking to our RBA yesterday- he said the easiest US one he's done was Cracker Swamp- evidently, his group rode fast and got lots of sleep each night. Also, apparently, they are planning to offer it every 4 years, so it won't be on this year.

I was thinking the Coulee Challenge registration was today, but it was yesterday. 35 person wait list now. Not sure I want to spend that much on a 1200k anyway, and it would be quite an adventure from here. Maybe they'll do it again and there will not be such heavy demand

But that was not the point of my original reference. "Randi" told me that he found that, when he did the 7 US plus Granite Anvil, he did not have time to recover between events PLUS in addition to fatigue, he did not have time to train between the events and was actually losing fitness. At least that is what he indicated at the time / a year later.
RUSA #64, on the other hand, never seems to show fatigue, although when the events have had less than two or three weeks between, he has, on occasion, indicated he was tired during the second event.

The Chicago 1200k Route looks to be pretty flat. The organizers are requiring either at least a 1000k or a full series in 2017 & 18 if it's your first 1200k. Riding west across the UP could be pretty challenging if it gets windy.
Why is that called Chicago 1200?

Sounds like nobody here has ridden in Florida. Florida is famous for how flat it is. And it has offered at least two different 1200k RUSA events over the years. And this year, 2018, it is offering a 1600k event. For me a flat route is an easy route. That's true whether there is a wind or no wind.

I looked on the RUSA website and it doesn't list a FL 1600 event (or maybe my GoogleFu is lacking)...

Bang, there is the full list of 8 in calendar year 2018.
Click on the "info" link for the Florida Tip to Tail took me to the South Florida Randonneurs website.
And although I did not try the links on The SouFlor site, there is a link there.

By the way, my perm-pop ride on Nov-16 intersected with the perm that John & Juliet did on Nov-16-2017. Among the topics chatted about during our approx 20-mile overlap / intersection was the Tip-to-Tail 1600. So, yes, it seems there really is a 1600 being put on late in calendar year 2018 in Florida.

I searched for rides 1200k+. Seems like it should show up for that, doesn't it? I wonder what other rides I haven't been finding when I search by distance, which is what I almost always do.
