This is the best news I've had all day! And I've actually had a very, very good day! :D Thank you, mods! Thank you, Joe!

Travelinguyrt 06-29-06 07:34 PM

I'm for it 100%

Even better if we can keep the repeatative junk out.i.e how much in front and how much weight in rear bags. or what should I take or kinda of shifters or brake or tire

If experiences over a LONG trip could be illustrated to be very helpful to first timers

I found on my trips that the equipment used was both basic and useful, that the meetings and rides with stangers I met were the hi lites and frankly the kinda bike and equipement really was more ego driven than useful, I mean how much better is one bike than a competitor

Agreed

Agreed! It is the "mind" on the bike that makes the legs go round.

Nice change to this subforum name and description. :)

Not sure why so many "tourists" pick the long distance forum to post in rather than the touring forum. Long distance cycling is more closely related to the Road cycling forum than the touring forum.

Mostly, I suspect, because "L" comes before "T" in the alphabet.

Also, don't forget, when the French write in English about rando riders, they frequently refer to "cyclo-tourists" and "cyclo-touring". But I doubt any / many newbie tourists know that.

Long or ultra endurance riding is one of the fastest growth areas of cycling. It's a great challenge to riders of all levels.

echotraveler 11-11-10 01:28 PM

an opinion, plz dont flame me.

In the spirit of getting more people involved in long distance discussion, i would like this forum to become a subforum of the road cycling forum....

i just realized this forum was a sub before, under the touring....but i would say rando and long distance to be more related to road forum and would benefit from the quantity of people on the road forum.

This forum is awesome! and i would still visit it often. Just an opinion, no harm intended to those that got this forum a fair placement.

ps. or maybe shorten the name so it pops out a bit more... i see many direct differences between roadies and rando guys....im a roadi, that dreams of being a rando guy.... randos just seem more "indiana jones" more manly (autosuficient)
