Longest Single Day Bike Ride.

How many miles have you gone in one single day?

Neist 06-29-06 01:44 PM

Not very many, because I'm just starting to train for long distance riding.

I think maybe 35 at one time ever. Hoping by next season I can get a century or two in.

explody pup 06-29-06 07:27 PM

somewhere around 75 :(

The Octopus 06-29-06 07:29 PM

394 miles in one 24-hour period (although it was over the course of 2 calendar days). I'm in total awe of the guys who can top 450. The winner at the Michigan 24-hour this year, which is a hilly course and was run in brutally hot weather, rode 470.2. God-like, I say.

rpc180 06-29-06 08:56 PM

106 so far ...

Portis 06-29-06 09:15 PM

113.5

Distance to my parents house. Took 6 hours.

Machka 06-29-06 09:24 PM

In one 24-hour period of time .... 442 kms (275 miles).

Ill Mitch 06-29-06 09:40 PM

My longest ride was just on sunday, rode from Toronto to Niagara falls then back to Toronto in 11 hours and 40 minutes with an average speed of 30 km/h. The total distance was 322km (200 miles).

spokenword 06-30-06 05:42 AM

252 mi in 23.25 hours.

bmike 06-30-06 06:15 AM

250 + the bonus miles for a navigation error

supcom 06-30-06 07:09 AM

My longest 24 hour period was 257 miles in doing a 400K brevet. Took 23:10. I still don't believe I did it.

ronsmithjunior 06-30-06 08:45 AM

252 miles on a 400k brevet in 19 hours, starting at 7:00 am Saturday morning and finishing at 2:00 am Sunday morning.

brunop 06-30-06 10:20 AM

Right now, 10 1/2 hours going 108 miles, with a semi-bonk. Not sure if it was a true bonk, but I was going for a double-metric+ but had to cut the ride short because I was in such agony in my shoes, and even when I was climbing speedbumps I couldn't break 3.5 mph.

Yeah, I'd say anything <5mph to climb a speed bump qualifies as bonked!

jimmuter 06-30-06 11:42 AM

I did a century (OK it was a metric century) for a charity ride last year. I also rode the 2 miles from my house to where the event started, so I did about 66 miles total that day. I'm not dying to do a real century, but may want to some day.

Shadiyah 06-30-06 12:56 PM

Wow. You folks are amazing. My goal is to be able to do 100 miles by the end of the year. I really want to buy a touring bike next year. :) You are all inspirations to me!

Reynolds 06-30-06 01:13 PM

250 km = 156 miles

bmclaughlin807 06-30-06 04:00 PM

I used to go out for 6 hour+ rides on the weekends in high school... I didn't have a comp, but if you figure 14mph average(I was probably closer to 16 mph!), I was riding over 80 miles a day .... I covered a LOT of ground in those days!!! I miss my hometown in the mountains. *sighs nostalgically*

The most I've done in one day recently (with a comp to measure it) was 45 miles last Sunday, when I was going to go for a 'short' ride 'just to stretch my legs a bit' .... I didn't want to stop then!

Hopefully by the end of summer I'll be able to hit 1000 miles in a month and meet Machka's challenge!

dauphin 06-30-06 04:31 PM

I did 100 on June 24th and that was my longest. Prior to that my longest was 64.

jcm 07-01-06 12:24 AM

109 miles. I didn't know it was that far at the time. It was just a route I decided to take that day. I tried it again the next week and bonked.

I guess I better not pre-plan those huffs. Ignorance is bliss...

drombat 07-01-06 05:05 AM

The night before yesterday, I decided to get up early and try a long distance ride. Prior to yesterday the longest ride I'd done was about 30 miles. I wasn't sure how long my planned route was, so I had a hard time planning it in the saddle. Turns out it was 85 miles, and I was home after about five and a half hour.

The hardest part was the ten miles from 20 to 30. I saw this huge climb coming and decided to stop for a snack and drink before. When I started the climb I thought "oh man, this is hard" and halfway up I was about ready to give up and go home, but I persevered and made it to the top. After a drink I routine checked my wheels, and found out the back brake was scraping.

I guess I hit the adjustment lever when I parked at the bottom of the climb. It was irritating as hell at first, but then it became my motivation. I made that hellish climb with brakes on, so I'll make this whole ride, I kept telling myself when I felt tired.

It was a great experience, challenging for the body as well as the mind. I know I'll be doing more of long distance riding.

HAMMER MAN 07-01-06 05:12 AM

122 miles.
now the farthest I will go is around 75

LWaB 07-01-06 07:16 AM

600 km = 373 miles within 24 hours (Mersey Roads 24 hr TT a few years ago) but over a weekend. I didn't aim for it but that's what they told me I did.

The old hands said that 300 miles was a respectable 24 hr TT distance for a woman and 350 for a man. I'm all for equal rights, I was aiming for 300! :p
