I wouldn't take it randonneuring due to time constraints, but for casual century riding and leisurely touring, I think it's a suitable machine. Was more suitalbe before Trek got silly and put a suspension fork on it, but what can one do?

Thanks for the reponse. I'm almost 66 and I don't know if I'll ever do any real long distance riding but it's good to know that I can. George

The hybrids are very comfortable bikes and when you're talking about long distance, comfort tends to become just as important as speed and weight. You're more likely to throw in the towel because your back is aching or your knee is tweaking than because it took you 10 hours to cover a 100 miles.
