In my previous post I said "A 200 mile ride is next!" - well I was 29 feet short! Here's the story...It wasn't until the next day that I discovered 200 miles is 321.87km, and I should've gone another 0.01km!

Oddly enough, the least suited of my bikes to ride a century on. I have two on it and none on my 700c bikes.

Tires very similar to the ones you see on there. They were Raleigh brand 1.5's with a slick center and a slight diamond-like tread on the sides with gum-walls. On the second century (which was forced) the cloth of the casings was showing through the gum-walls as they had dry rotted quite a bit. I'd bought the tires around 1990 and they were still rolling (and holding the tubes inside) when I retired them a couple of years ago. I still have my Tioga "Farmer John's" from that same time.

Finished putting it together last night. Garage-built frame, the same components as listed for the previous bike I posted here, but this one is 650b with Grand Bois Hetre 42mm tires.

I've done a century on my TT bike, but it was down to the lats millimetre; the position was really too extreme and took me ages to recover (neck and hip):
And then the rest of them (probably three or four, including one 460km ride without stopping) on my Norco CRR:
And actually I probably have done one or two on my old Olmo steelie, which has since been converted into a SS. I did about 110km on her last week -- not sure I'd want to go 160 on a SS.

This is probably my favorite bike out of all those that I have used in the last 25 years or so. I'm going to make another fork to increase fender clearance and decrease trail, in anticipation of mounting a front bag. Otherwise it's essentially perfect for me.
The tires are a revelation. I am sure they are actually a touch faster than the 700x30 Grand Bois Cypres that I used on the previous bike -- I can still keep up with the 700x23 crowd (as long as no cat. 2s show up, anyway!
) -- and yes, they're like riding on clouds. Fire roads and non-technical singletrack are easily within their capabilities as well, making this the most versatile bike I have ever ridden. My only concern is that these are the only tires in the world that fill this niche. If they become unavailable, I don't know what I'll do. For now, I think I'll start hording them!

i have looked around a little on the internets though, and havent found them in that great color- also - where did you get that seat bag- ive seen them on bikes here on bikeforum but never in person- they look like theyd be real usefull!

It's metalflake silver powdercoat, with a clearcoat on top. Done by local folks, about $100, they do a decent job. The metalflake part just doesn't show up in the pic.
The tires are the Grand Bois Hetre. As far as I know they are only available from Vintage Bicycle Press, https://www.vintagebicyclepress.com/tireoffer.html. I really like these tires!
The seat bag is the Carradice Barley. I'm pretty sure I got it from Peter White, https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/carradice.asp. It's definitely a good bag; just about perfect for randonneuring. The only downside, I'd say, is that the leather straps with buckles look cool, but they're a bit fiddly. When you're cold and tired and just want your armwarmers or a Powerbar, the old-school charm wears thin pretty quickly. Like about 30 seconds after you started fumbling with the @#$! buckles.

My Surly LHT and Rivendell Redwood. Both great century bikes. The Redwood is a bit quicker, but the LHT is a super comfy ride.
